DRACAENA DRAGO

ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS

Dracaena Drago belongs to the Aspargaceae family, from Africa, Asia and Central America. We can also know it by its common name of "Dragon of the Canary Islands".

It is a tree-like plant that can reach 20 meters in height, with a thick trunk that branches out in a very particular way, where the branches divide into two similar ones from the apex (this only takes place after flowering). . Knowing the latter, if a Canary Dragon has not branched out, we know that it is because it has not yet reached maturity.

The elongated green leaves can measure up to 60 centimeters long and we have to be careful because they are sharp. This plant has its flowering in warm seasons such as spring or summer, giving an inflorescence with many branches and flowers, producing green or orange fruits.

DECORATION OF ... EXTERIOR OR INTERIOR?

The Canary Islands Dragon can be used in our garden as an isolated specimen or we can decorate it by creating a set of several specimens of the same species joining them in a rockery. If we want to have them inside our home, we only need a bright room with a suitable pot that drains the water properly.

- Fertilizer. During the growing season (spring - autumn) you can fertilize them with worm humus. Eggshells are a good homemade fertilizer, they contain (Calcium, Iron, Potassium, magnesium and Phosphorus) these nutrients are very important and favor their growth, you must crush and mix them with the substrate, administer them a couple of times a year.

- Treatment against fungi due to excess humidity, disinfect the area with a copper-based fungicide.
