ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS

Yucca Gloriosa or also known as "Spanish Dagger" or "Yucca Brilhante", is a perennial shrub belonging to the Agavaceae family and native to North America. Its height can reach 2.5 meters in height.

This plant is characterized by having a short and branched stem, its blue-green leaves can reach 50 cm long, and the tips of these usually have a brown hawthorn. Its flowers, which bloom in warm seasons, are bell-shaped and white in color, and can sometimes be purple or brown.

DECORATION OF ... EXTERIOR OR INTERIOR?

If we focus on the decoration of the garden, we can plant them as isolated shrubs or harvest several of these species, in both cases I highlight their natural beauty due to the characteristic leaves and stems. In addition, it is a plant that must be taken into account if you live near the beach, because it is very resistant to sea salinity.

On the other hand, if we want to integrate them into our home, they would be perfect for decorating our terraces, balconies and even inside the house, provided they are in a sunny place with a vase that allows good drainage. It is very resistant to drought, which makes it the ideal companion.

CARE FOR CACTI AND SUCCULENT

They are showy, very pretty plants that require little maintenance.

- They prefer places with direct or well-lit light, preferably next to a window, on a balcony, a terrace or in your garden.

- It supports low temperatures, around 8ºC.

- It is essential that they have good drainage, both in the ground and in pots.

- The ideal substrate for cacti must be combined with sand and gravel, so that they have good drainage, humidity and excess water are not good.

- Irrigation should not be excessive. From spring to fall, which would be its growing season, water every fortnight, water abundantly, and wait for the soil to dry out again. In winter, do not water or water for a month.

- Fertilizer. During the growing season (spring - fall), you can fertilize them with earthworms. The eggshell is a good household fertilizer because it contains (Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium and Phosphorus) these nutrients are very important and favor its growth, it must be crushed and mixed with the substrate, administered a few times a year. .

- Treatment against fungi due to excess humidity, disinfect the area with a copper-based fungicide.

- If you want to transplant them from the pot or from the ground, the best time would be from spring.
