PROCEDURE AND CHARACTERISTICS

This species, also commonly known as "Sahuero", belongs to the Cactaceae family. The Carnegiea is from the United States.

It is a giant columnar cactus, of slow growth that can reach 14 meters in its natural habitat, although if we maintain it correctly for a long time it could reach a similar size. This plant also has ramifications, and can have 8 of these.

This green cactus also has radial spines of a brown color, arising from the areoles located on the ribs. Its flowering comes after turning 30 years old and when it reaches a minimum of 2 meters in height, giving white flowers that usually open at night. The fruit of the Sahuaro is an edible berry.

DECORATION OF ... EXTERIOR OR INTERIOR?

This magnificent species is mainly used to create a group of cacti in the garden, or to enhance it by planting it just to let it grow and give that touch of height to the garden.

This plant can also be incorporated into a pot if we want to have it in our home, it must be a wide and bright area, and we have to make sure that this pot drains the water correctly.

CARE FOR CACTI AND SUCCULENT

They are showy, very pretty plants that require little maintenance.

- They prefer places with direct or well-lit light, preferably next to a window, on a balcony, a terrace or in your garden.

- It supports low temperatures, around -9ºC.

- It is essential that they have good drainage, both in the ground and in pots.

- The ideal substrate for cacti must be combined with sand and gravel, so that they have good drainage, humidity and excess water are not good.

- Irrigation should not be excessive. From spring to fall, which would be its growing season, water every fortnight, water abundantly, and wait for the soil to dry out again. In winter, do not water or water for a month.

- Fertilizer. During the growing season (spring - fall), you can fertilize them with earthworms. The eggshell is a good household fertilizer because it contains (Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium and Phosphorus) these nutrients are very important and favor its growth, it must be crushed and mixed with the substrate, administered a few times a year. .

- Treatment against fungi due to excess humidity, disinfect the area with a copper-based fungicide.
